Day 4 of the counting has arrived and it is known that Leonor (Leni) Robredo is still in the lead by more than 2, 00,000 votes; her closest rival is in this race is
Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos who happens to be the son of the former dictator of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The ruling Liberal party’s Vice-presidential bet has been able to hold onto the lead is a ray of hope for the Liberal Party led by Aquino; this was the position
reported by unofficial sources in the early hours of today.
This unofficial report came amidst the reported statement of Comelec, the official body controlling the conduct of elections in the Philippines which indicated
that the number of votes that were still to be canvassed and then transmitted had been estimated at 7, 70,000.
Hence, with the small margin of vote difference between the two leading, any outcome is possible.
However, analysts still believe that such an upheaval may not really be possible unless some drastic patterns emerge from the remaining votes.
Liberal Party sources are confident of winning this one
Leonor “Leni” Robredo has continued to cling to her lead of over 2, 00,000 which was about one fourth of the remaining votes; while her closest vice
presidential rival Marcos Jr. looked to be in a difficult spot.
The above Partial results which are still unofficial are stated to be based on reports that have sent from 95.67 percent of precincts, in the early hours of today, May 12, 2016.
In terms of the number of votes polled in favour of all the candidates, it was reported that Leni Robredo was leading the pack with a total tally of 13.9 million votes as
against the tally for Marcos Jr. being about 13.7 million votes.
Thus, the lady was leading the Vice-Presidential race by over 200000 votes; this tally is also said to include the Oversees Absentee Votes.
There was a veritable chasm between the two frontrunners and the candidate lying third; this position was occupied by Alan Peter Cayetano who could
muster up 5.6 million votes with no hopes of a revival in view of the small number of votes remaining to be canvassed and conveyed.
The positions of the remaining candidates are as follows:
- Francis Escudero – 8 million votes,
- Trillanes IV – 0.8 million votes,
- Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan – 0.7 million votes.
As far as overseas absentee votes from 23.26 percent of precincts are concerned the partial, unofficial result reported that:
- Marcos had a lead with 60,753 votes;
- Cayetano with 47,000 votes;
- Robredo with 28, 000 votes;
- Escudero with 5,000 votes;
- Trillanes with 1,000 votes; and
- Honasan with 900 votes
