The economy of the Philippines has exhibited a certain strength which has stood it in good stead. It means that someone is doing something right. It may also be the result of proper systems and safeguards.

In fact, the economy depends on a number of complex factors and many agencies have to strive for it. The exports of a nation play a vital role in boosting the economy.

That is why The Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (Philexport) is working to bring in radical changes. They are introducing innovative reforms that are likely to positively influence the economy.

The proposed steps are to boost the Philippines into an upper-middle-class economy by 2022. These include:
• Easing foreign investments to reduce costs,
• Increasing investments in Infrastructure projects, and
• Improving agro-industrial linkages.

Sergio Ortiz Luis, President Philexport stated that these steps will boost growth in the Philippines. Currently, the rate of growth is faster than that of China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Such reforms contribute to the robust development of the export sector and confirm to the Philippine Export Development Plan 2015-2017. In providing this impetus to exports in a planned manner, the economy will be at middle-income level by 2022.

Furthermore, the refinements will lead the Philippines to become a high-income economy by the year 2040 or thereabouts. The government’s growth target for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is pegged at between 6.5 and 7.5%.

This is the conclusion drawn from the projections of major industries and institutions in the local and international sectors. These are figures from the current year, he stated.

In addition, the GDP of the Philippines during the last year was pegged at 6.8%. It was the strongest year of the past three years.
Exports, one of the indices of growth will surely provide impetus to the economy, Ortiz-Luis said.

These were the inferences drawn in view of the global study of growth rates and commodity prices.
