There is good news for the consumers as far as the Electricity Bills for domestic tariff are concerned; they will have to pay less towards their monthly electricity bills.

The changed domestic tariff rates are likely to become effective this current month onwards.

This good news was announced by Meralco for all consumers of domestic electricity and bring down their household expenditure.

It was stated in a communication that rate of charges for electric power will go down by an amount of PhP0.12 for every kilowatt hour (kWh). In effect, the rate for domestic consumers per kWh will be reduced to PhP8.34.

Meralco announced that the rate for a typical household will go down this October by PhP0.12 per kilowatthour (kWh), thereby bringing it down to PhP8.34 per kWh.

It was explained that, in real terms, this reduction would mean that for an average family that consumes about 200 kWh in a month, there would be a saving in the Electricity bill of Ph
P24 monthly.

Meralco authorities also provided the reasoning behind this reduction of electrical tariffs. The reduction of the charges was a direct result of the reduction of the cost of generation of power as also the lower cost od transmission.
Thus, Meralco was only passing on the benefits of the reduced costs that it incurred on the generation and transmission of power on to the consumers.

It may also be stated here that this reduction which resulted due to downward movements in both generation and transmission charges is not new. This is the third straight month that the consumers in the residential category have seen.

The reduction started since September 2016 and the benefit was passed on to the consumers. Last month the cost per kWh of generation charges was Ph3.9439 and this month’s charges were lower by Ph 0.0501. It now stands at Ph3.8938 which is Ph0.017per kWh lower than the corresponding month of the previous year that is October 2015 that stood at PhP3.9955 per kWh.

The cause of these reductions is the lower cost incurred by the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) since the demand had gone down in September 2016 in comparison to the previous month August.
The effect of reduced cost was also seen in the transmission charges. Due to reduction of the cost by the NGCP in its ancillary charges there was also a corresponding decrease in the transmission charge.
The fall in this case was by PhP0.0558 per kWh attributable mainly to the Ancillary charges.
That was not all; there were also other decreases in the charges apart from the Ancillary charges.
Other charges and Taxes also registered a d3crease resulting in a fall of PhP0.0157 per kWh.
As far as the supply, distribution and metering charges of Meralco are concerned, the last reduction was during July 2015. Thereafter, there have been no changes in their charges even though15 months have elapsed.
As a matter of policy, Meralco maintains that they do not seek to profit from the pass-through charges which is another name for the generation and transmission charges.
The power suppliers get their payments from the generation charges while the goes to the power suppliers, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP ) gets the payment for the transmission charges.
All modern methods of communication and customer service are practised by the systems developed by Meralco in their efforts to provide better service and flow of communications both ways.
The effort is to keep the updated information being provided to the consumers in a timely manner; keeping their KYC details updated is a must if they want proper information on all aspects of service.ead of power interruptions.
