4. Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways is the flag carrier for the fun-loving country of the Middle East country, United Arab Emirates which is the new playground for the rich and famous while also serving as an attractive official and residential destination. In keeping with the luxurious and comfortable facilities available, the services have to be of the same high international standards.
Etihad reflects and maintains the high expectations that today’s business class or hi-flying jetsetters who roam the world enjoying their riches and playing their expensive games.
It’s warm and imaginative services have fetched it some amazing awards on the world stage and has the distinction of being one of the few (11) airlines that are serving all the continents (60) that require flights.
Like some other airlines, it is not involved in any alliance but it does have code sharing agreements with a number of airlines, large and small.
Etihad also emerged as the winner at the World travel awards winning the prestigious “World’s leading airline” award for 2013.
Etihad has an awesome strategy to encourage sports and Corporate Social responsibility; they are the corporate sponsors of Manchester United, the prestigious football team of the English premier league as also the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne City.
Checking In
More than a majority of their flights are providing online check in which begin twenty four hours before the scheduled departure and closes two hours before the departure of the flight.
Physical check in is three hours prior to the flight while for flights for Abu Dhabi, passengers have to collect their boarding passes four hours before the flight departs; check in ends one hour before the flight while it is only 45” for Pearl Business Class and Diamond First Class passengers at the airports at Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The passengers bound to USA cannot avail this service currently; other details for check in should be confirmed beforehand.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
A total of 30 Kg is allowed in bags for Economy Class.
The measurements should not exceed 45 cm x 72 cm x 90 cm.
Extra allowances in weight are provided to some classes of passengers.
Passengers bound for Canada, Brazil and USA are dealt with on per piece basis and a maximum of 32 Kg for Brazil and 23 Kg for Canada and USA
However, these rules might have changed; please confirm before leaving for the airport.
Comfort
Legroom varies between 32 to 33 inches but it is a generous 72 inches for Pearl Business passengers.
Diamond First Class travelers get their own bed in a cabin.
Seats can be chosen while checking in free of cost.
Drinks and Dining
The dining scene on the Etihad flights is majestic and luxury personified; it is like dining in a royal palace in the clouds; cost of meals is included in the price of the ticket.
For the Business class and First class travelers, it is an “anytime, a la carte” fare.
5. KLM
It is almost like an ancient airline since it is the oldest one still operating even though it was founded in 1919 with the specific purpose of providing air connectivity between the Netherlands and its several colonies. And, the name remains intact still. It had its offices at The Hague.
But, now it is running with its modified name since it has merged in 2004 with Air France and is now part of the Air France KLM group.
It was the first airline to offer a frequent flier loyalty program.
Checking In
Online check in is available for KLM flights from 1 to 30 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. The site is KLM.com.
Machines are provided at some airports to check in physically.
A printout of the boarding pass and you have to drop off the baggage at the designated point.
Schiphol airport has check-in desks that open at 5 AM and service the flights leaving on the same day; the baggage can be left at self-service kiosks in departure hall No. 2.
Two articles are allowed
The lovers of entertainment can never get bored on board and intercontinental flight which has its libraries stocked with interactive entertainment material in different languages; it includes:
- Nearly one hundred films,
- DVDs, CDs and blu-ray discs
- TV programs,
- Magazines and newspapers,
- Audio books,
- Language courses, and
- Games
There is also an opportunity to purchase tax-free items onboard KLM flights.
